Derby Gypsy/Traveller Site

Planning Permission Granted for 17 pitches
Decision follows months of local opposition

Planning permission has been granted for Derby’s first permanent Gypsy/Traveller site at Russell Street in Osmaston.  The Council will use a £1.4 million Government grant to develop the site once the site has been secured from Rolls Royce.  Derby Evening Telegraph article >

The decision comes on the heals of months of local opposition and a possibility the application might be called-in after Cabinet went against a full Council recommendation that the application be withdrawn. Derby Evening Telegraph article >

CDN Planning was instructed by Derby City Council to assess a number of site options put forward for consideration.  Each site was assessed against a number of suitability and sustainability criteria.  Based on good proximity to local services/facilities and minimal impacts on local social/physical infrastructure, the site at Russell Street was selected as a preferred option.  CDN Planning also prepared a detailed master plan and planning application for the site.
