Site Identification & Assessment
In 2003, CDN Planning identified a replacement Gypsy/Traveller site for Colchester Borough Council. The projected involved a number of community consultation exercise and conflict resolution for what was a very contentious issue where the local authority was criticised in the past for lack of public involvement, questionable objectivity and disputing political factions.
CDN Planning’s initial role was to ensure an independent and objective approach to providing a solution embraced by all. A ‘bottom up’ approach was adopted involving all key stakeholders to identify 5 potential options for new Gypsy/Traveller pitches. Illustrative layouts were prepared for each potential site and then taken to public consultation where ultimately one site was selected by the Council and successfully gained planning consent for Gypsy/Traveller use.
