Derby City Council

Site Identification & Assessment

CDN Planning was instructed in June 2007 to provide an independent review and assessment of Derby City Council’s short-list of site options for a new permanent Gypsy/Traveller site for up to 17 pitches.

CDN Planning was required to produce a development scheme for the preferred option that would balance the needs of the occupiers of the site with the aims and aspirations of guidance contained in Circular 01/2006 and Draft Guidance on the Design of Sites for Gypsies & Travellers (2007).

Although the site is constrained by its urban location within an established residential area and a regeneration area, the project team was committed to produce a high quality scheme that would successfully integrate the Gypsy/Traveller community with the surrounding settled community.

A design statement and master plan was produced by CDN Planning and formed part of an application securing a £1.4 million Government grant. The site gained planning permission in September 2008.
